Coaching vs Counseling
Coaching and counseling each offer a unique and specific purpose: one that needs to be discerned prior to working together. I cannot be both your coach and your therapist. You’ll need to choose in which capacity you would like to work with me. Regardless of what you choose, you will benefit from my knowledge, training, and experience as both a marriage and family therapist and as an Enneagram coach.
Coaching
Coaching is best for clients who would like to stretch and grow in understanding themselves or their relationships with significant people in their lives (partner, family, friends, work). Through Enneagram coaching, we will explore opportunities for your higher potential and how to make progress in becoming and embracing who you are. Enneagram coaching can include things like: understanding how to use the Enneagram as a tool for coming into yourself; looking at patterns of behavior in your life (past and present); examining the dynamics of your relationships using the lens of the Enneagram; exploring spirituality; identifying areas for growth with exploration about where to begin the change process, and more. Coaching can happen via video session regardless of where you are in the world, or in person at my office in Minneapolis, MN, USA.
Counseling/Therapy
Clients who desire to focus more on skills to improve mental health challenges, who want to dive deep into healing past trauma using techniques like EMDR, and those who want a space to share their stories and be held with compassion where they are are likely a better fit for counseling/therapy. Couples who are experiencing more significant difficulties and need support around rebuilding trust, restoring disconnection, and improving their ability to handle conflict and communication challenges will also be better served with counseling than coaching.
